  1. i love racing my mtb, but i am at a point in my career as a racer that i may need to train differently. i get a lot of saddle time in the mountains and have never bothered to road bike for fitness. i won the expert class in our local series last year, so i moved into the pro class this year. this has been a very big jump for me. i finish about mid-pack and have made the top 5 twice in smaller races. i have no structure in my weekly routine, nor do i ride a road bike. i need help with structure (what small things can i change?) and what benefits would i reep from using a road bike? i would really like to improve my race results.

  2. I race the mtb circuit as well in Thailand and find that gaining road bike experience definately helps and pelaton riding is fantastic fun as well. The roadies are great chaps who have no preconceptions towards XC riders which is reflected in the same way in return. Anyway, I digress. Road training definately builds power from sprinting, endurance due to rides being 100km+ in length. The main hassle in Thailand is the heat!! Camelbaks and electrolytes are the norm. Enjoy mixing it up.

  3. ryon, sorry I didn't actually reply to your question. What I normally do is change the knobblies to slick road tyres on my mtb, lock the suspension out and off you go. No real need to spend money (unless you're real serious) on a road bike. However, if you did invest in one and trained on the road, you would definately notice a marked improvement in your races. With regards to structure, I've no structure in my weekly routine either so maybe someone could help us both out.
