  1. Two this weekend I'm going to pig out at, a Polish festival in
Wilmington De. (pierogi - drool) and the West Chester. PA resturant
festival (lots of good vendors there).
Next weekend is the Niagara Food Festival in Welland, ON.
Anyone else planning on attending the above ?

Anything going on in your neck of the woods ?

I'll probably be going to the Welland Food Festival. It is 10 minutes
    away.

Not presently...but where I moved from the first weekend in October is
the Western Washington Seafood Festival and Oyster Shucking Contest,
    better known as Oysterfest.

  4. Maybe I'll see you there. I'll be there Saturday. It's less than 5
    minutes from my fiancee's.
Look for a muscular (body builder, me) 40ish 6' 100kg man with balding
salt and pepper close cut hair, a fu-machu mustache with a soul patch
    accompanied by a 5'2 50kg blonde woman.

SD, sorry about tacking on but I can't find the OP and I don't have a
lot of time since I have a huge pot of spaghetti sauce in the makings.
Anyway, we are rather partial to the ribfests. Labour Day Weekend we
went to the one in Burlington. It was very good. The week before that
our kids went to the one in Guelph. I'm itching to go to a chili
cookoff. We go to the little ones around here but we really want to go
the the larger ones down south. Last weekend I went to a native
(aboriginal) food fest. The fry bread was to die for! I tought I did a
good job on fry bread but this master did it better than mine. Her corn
soup was very good too. I left my contact info in the hopes she will
teach me a few tricks to making both fry bread and corn soup. I could
easily handle a seafood festival! I love seafood.

  6. Burlington, Guelph ? I never thought of the Golden Horseshoe as a
    hotbed of rib cookery!
    BTW: what is "OP" ?

Wasn't there a big rib fest in St.Catharines a few months ago?

It might be like looking in a mirror :-)

I didn't go to it last year. I had been to it several times and it was a
pretty good deal. They used to offer pretty good deals, but it got
increasingly expensive, and some of my favourite places were no longer
participating. I was disappointed to see ho one place was cooking their
shrimp dish. They used precooked shrimp. For the time it takes to cook a
shrimp they could have started with raw and it would have been much
    tastier.

I have not been there in years but Cottage Grove Oregon holds a
Scasndavanian festival in late August, the Gilroy garlic festavel in
California is a lot of fun and where i first found garlic ice cream.

  12. It is Octoberfest season in my area. Yes, we have a whole season, with
two major Octoberfests and several smaller ones.

Only the NM state fair. Nothing orignal likely (haven't been yet) but
the other food festivals are past, as is the wine festival.

Actually it's in Junction City, the other direction from Eugene. 🙂
I loved going to that when I lived in Eugene.

Ack! Things you learn about when it's too late!

I spent three years in Corvallis, and never knew about that festival. Now
that it's too far to be practical, OF COURSE I hear about it!

I didn't hear about the one in St. Catharines but I don't doubt it.
Ribfests are growing in popularity and are a fun way to spend the day
including evening hours. The Burlington one is supposed to be Canada's
largest ribfest. This year there were 15 rib teams from across North
America. You can read more about it at
http://canadaslargestribfest.com Other ribfests I've heard of are at
Port Dover, Markham, Etobicoke, Brockville, Barrie, Niagara Falls,
Scarborough, London, Sarnia, and Mitchell's Bay all in Ontario. All of
these are smaller ribfests with the winners going on to the larger
ribfests. Scarborough is supposed to be the next biggest one after
    Burlington.

Here's a link with more Canadian food festivals, not just limited to
    Ontario - http://www.foodreference.com/html/canada-food-festivals.html

We're going to the *drunkfest* opps sorry as it is officially known as
Octoberfest in Kitchener. There is a college and a couple of
universities nearby with a few other universities within easy driving
distance. Octoberfest coincides with the end or just before the first
set of midterms so you can easily see where it becomes a major stress
releaser for the little darlings 😉
