that enough threads are engagaed. -

Can a 25.4 mm clamp mountain stem be used with 26.0 mm diameter road

just fine. It seems to clamp the bars better. My road stem whould not
clamp the bar tight enough unless I sprained my wrists, busted my
nuckles and rounded the allen bolts. People say that this is a no, no.
However, the screws in an mtb stem engage just fine with a road bar. As
long as you don't use an ultralite stem with paper screws and paper
face plate, I don't think that this should be a problem.Andres

deformation in the bar shortens it's fatigue life? -

Can a 25.4 mm clamp mountain stem be used with 26.0 mm diameter road
drop bars safely? Thanks in advance.Would it work? Sure. Would I do it personally. Not a chance. I
tend to be conservative (heh) when it comes making a decision between
two options - one which would incrementally increase the chance of a
catastrophic parts failure and the other which would save me a few
bucks. The "points" of the clamp area are going to "dig in" and/or compress
the bar at the points of contact, by at least 0.3mm on either side.
Since those "slight indentations" also happen to be precisely located
at the natural stress riser point on the bars it sure sounds like a
bad idea.I'm sure plenty of people have done it, and the vast majority of 'em
have probably gotten away with it. But personally, I'd buy the right
stem.Mark Hickey
