I am a college runner in the United States and have been running for most of my life. In the past two seasons I have suffered three stress fractures and am contemplating a change to cycling. I am 20 yrs old, and am in excellent shape (besides the stress fracture). My PRs are 32:03 10K, 25:54 8k, and 4:26 mile; however, i have never done any serious cycling; however, i know how to work hard. If I were to start cycling would it be possible to turn pro in 5-6 yrs or is it too late to start? How hard is the transition to cycling from distance running? Any advice from other people who have transitioned from running to cycling? Thanks much!

You are about to become a superior human being. A man with a bicycle. Is just as good as a runner but actually you can go SOMEWHERE with a bicycle, carry a moderate load, and even race and become rich and famous.
Road bikes are pricey, but so worthy .....I used to run half marathons every week .... and I got tired of being in a permanent state of injury.
Now I commute a marathon roundtrip 3 - 4 times a week, go figure why I dont run anymore.😄

Excellent point, I still do a fair bit of running myself but my legs and knees are taking a pounding but by doing more of that work on a bike I think I am giving myself a few more years of life on these legs and I seem to bounce back quicker than when all my workouts were strictly runnning. In fact I think it has helped my times and endurance because my legs feel much fresher and less painful.
