Paceline.com reporting that Armstrong and Crow got engaged. But more interesting was the post script-
As reported first today in the Austin American-Statesman, we can confirm that Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow are indeed engaged to be married. The 7-time Tour de France champion proposed on Wednesday, Aug 31 while the couple was vacationing in Sun Valley, Idaho last week on a Mountain Biking vacation. No date has been set and Lance is now back in the Austin, TX area.
* Also of note: In light of recent doping allegations by the French newspaper l'Equipe, rumors of Lance coming out of retirement to go for an unprecedented 8th Tour de France victory are still premature, but he did say recently, "I am thinking about it, and I am exercising every day…"

Proof he was on EPO in '99.
-- "It's not the critic who counts. Not the man who points out where the strong man stumbled or where the doer of great deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is in the arena. Whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood. Who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again. And who, while daring greatly, spends himself in a worthy cause so that his place may not be among those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat." -- Theodore Roosevelt

He's got to consult with Oprah and the Dalai Lama before he makes up his mind. Or maybe he's just going on Oprah to have a [censored]-the-French fest.

He is probably hoping that the Equipe, out of fear that he might be serious, will panic and declare that he is as clean as pump water.

Benjo
New Orleans pump water?
That's perhaps for the next edition, as soon as Armstrong has announced he isn't coming anyway.

Lance will be there next year. His ego won't allow him not to be. Plus, all this about his kids. I'd bet that two weeks of that and Lance was climbing the walls. And I don't see him singing backup for anybody ... not even Sheryl. -- Bob C.

Well, as Roger de Vlamynck said at 30: "Riders are very bad in quitting, but I can assure you I will stop at 33" (although it's true he was still racing at 40).

Yeah...I kinda figured that having a full-on dose of kids would eventually wear thin 🙂
"I'm thinking it's the best way to [censored] (the French) off."
Lance is a great athlete and I don't believe in trial by media, but Lance needs to shed his lifelong victim complex. Pissing off a whole nation shows how thin his skin is, as well as an indulgence in good ole American xenophobia.
There is at least one: me. Although I dislike them more than I "hate" them. There is much worse in this world than taking drugs to win races. But please don't let that disturb your bashing. I have a conspiracy to work on.
The best thing he could do to [censored] the French is to race the Giro and not the Tour. His inclusion in the 2006 Giro would reduce the prestige of the '06 Tour to that of a mere club ride.

That would be fun what with Ullrich riding the Giro in 2006. The Italian drug police would welcome him with open arms.

No way. The Tour is much bigger than Lance Armstrong. Armstrong thanks his fame to the Tour, not the other way round.

That's not even close to the point. Going on my experience with hardcore Rodeo types from Oklahoma, Texas, etc...The quickest way to really [censored] them off and motivate them is to kick [censored] on them. They may not win the fight, but they sure as hell are going to cause one to happen. With all this [censored] flying, and the new wife saying, "go kick their ass" I'm betting he's back. Bill C
I don't buy that if. If Lance was doing the Giro instead you better believe Basso would peak for the Giro and where Basso and Lance go so goes Ulrich, Leiphiemer, Landis, Hamilton (if he is back). The later three because that is where american audiences will go, and the former because he knows winning any race with out Lance or even Basso for that matter (especially for him) is second fiddle. Then basically with 5 or 6 of the top 10 tour riders riding the Giro the rest of the GC competitors will follow suit.
Add to this that italian riders or riders on italian teams will have no excuse not to put the giro at the top of their yearly schedule and I can't see how it wouldn't make it the premier race of the year.
While I think Lance by himself wouldn't make the Giro "The Race of the Year", it would be catalst enough to cause a tipping point.
