  1. There's an excellent chance that I'll be travelling
to Adelaide and seeing the TdU next year. Watching
is not going to be enough, I'm going to want to
get out there and suffer. So, I'll need to transport
    the precious beast via air.

I've seen a few hard cases around, all pretty expensive,
    anyone use/recommend a particular one?

I fear that I'll try and do one of Norton Summit,
Greenhill or Old Mt Barker Roads. With all the flat
riding I've done around Perth, it'll hurt.

    Cheers,
    DeF

suffer you will, some of those are pretty steep!
i don't like driving on the top end of greenhill road, let alone cycling it!

don't really know the old mt barker road, but blackwood to crafers is fun! =)
not that i'm volunteering to ride it with you. (yet) i'll need to be a lot fitter!

Going to take a ride up the steepest road in the world?

If you tried to understand this, you'd be very confused, in the standard
way we talk about confusion. -- Some astronomer at a talk.

I've taken my bike on a couple of trips in cardboard boxes, you get
for free from bike shops - they throw them out.

Do 'em all. I'm the world's worst climber and I'll be doing
them all again. Crafers from the eastern side is a [censored],
but Norton Summit is a nice climb (Marble hill rd is a *fantastic*
descent!) and the old road up Mt Barker is good too. One of
my lads & I did Norton Summit, over the top to Marble Hill, then
across to Mt BArker in a morning, about 100km, and some very nice
    riding.

Do one of the stages in the morning before the pros with us -
I assume it'll be on again. We certainly suffered this year,
because it was a very hot day.

Do all of them. Pain is good for you :-)

Well, I've done all these hills in my youth. I grew up in Bridgewater
and cut my cycling legs around there. I used to ride to Adelaide Uni
down Old Mt Barker Rd and ride home in the arvo. The ride through
Blackwood/Belair to Crafers is pretty tough, especially the last climb.
It seems to go for ages and you can see it all in front of you.
A few years ago I did German Town Hill (any hill that has a name has got
to be taken seriously!) and that hurt although it's pretty short.

There's some lovely rides in the Adelaide Hills - can't wait to get
out there again. My favourite is to start in Stirling and ride through
to Port Elliott, about 80km, with plenty of downhill sections.

to be able to climb *any* of these...

Or for those whose bones knit fast, a ramp ¾ of the way down for aerials.
