Open Pros are $60 per or $120 per pair...

Yeah, I'm going to try < $100. To be honest, I thought there'd be a big
rush for them and I thought maybe Jobst would tender an opinion on
their 'modern day' value. Ah well! Thanks for mentioning Torelli though
- very nice!

thicknesses and dimensions are just as important as whether the rim is
anodised or not. Make a 1500g hard anodised rim and it ain't going to
crack. These things aren't black and white.

And "sensible price" does not belong in the same sentence as "Ebay".
You can get some deals on Ebay, but a lot of stuff goes for way more
than retail or true value (except to the two people overbidding).

Why does the OpenPro make noise? How is it only the silver
makes noise?

I run the Torelli masters on one bike and they are great.
Light, box construction, full sockets.

The other road bike frame was built for 630 mm rims so I
got Sun CR18 rims. While technically a MTB rim they are
advertised to be 5g heavier than the T. Masters and are
suitable for a road bicycle. They are built with eyelets
but not with sockets; do not suffer from it. The cross
section has walls bordering the spoke holes and running
parallel to the brake surface. I set the tension by
running up the tension until they distorted out of a
plane, then backed off the tension. They have been running
perfectly for three years.

I have a pair that are about 6 years old now and no cracks, while the
Mavic MA-2's I had 10+ years ago developed cracks in about a year. Go
figure.

They all make noise, we just don't normally build with CD OpenPros. The
black ones make noise at the eyelets as well.
