I think Time-Life has complied the "best of " for various genres, and sells
them as a prepackage CD set, Best of the 70's etc, maybe you can have a look
at their list.
Seems like it's pretty subjective, if you ask me.

The iTunes Music Store has the lists of the top 100 songs going way back.

But, lord, there's a lot of pure [censored] in there.

google billboard top 100. they have charts going back year in the various
genres.

I just caught a bit on the news about Les Paul turning 90 this year.
What does he want to do? He wants to rock! Finally, Les paul wants to
rock after all of these years and he's looking forward to playing with
what he calls some "damn good players". His new CD "Les Pal and

I heard an interview with him a couple of years ago. I hit the middle of it
so I did not know who it was, but I couldn't leave the car until I found
out.

guitar greats a while back? I mean a while "back"
since I have a recording of it in "beta." It has
EVH, Stanley Jordan, and David Gilmore to name
a few.

Project? It was released as a 33 1/3 10" EP and Brian May and EVH. My

I have not listened to it since the mid-80's and don't recall the

Carla and I saw him last winter at his regular Monday night gig in NYC.. Irridium. He does two shows... We got to see his early show
He was awesome! He has a really great sense of humor!
He had a few guests sit in with him... nobody of mention but they all played different styles and Les was right there with them!
We plan on going again... Next time the late show for sure

UNBELIEVABLE. All I can say is, if you get the opportunity, if you're ever
in NYC, do yourself a favor and catch his show. You won't be disappointed.
As a matter of fact, I think we're going to go watch him again soon...

I miss out on a lot of stuff like this living here in MTB paradise (the
sticks). Another great jazz (and other genres) guitarist around NYC I'd
love to catch is Marc Ribot.
Go see him if you can. He often plays at John Zorn's club, Tonic.

Has Nels Cline from LA played n MTB paradise? He's my favorite jazz
guitarist of the last couple of years. The dude amazes me the way he can go
from scronchy noisy jazz improv outfits to local punk bands to big rock
bands to traditional jazz.

I saw Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes here last night. They are a New
Orleans funk/jazz/rock band with a super-tight horn section. Great band,
but they were (understandably) a bit bummed last night. They were on the
road when the hurricane hit and have all lost their homes and most of
their possessions. I think we raised some good money for the relief
effort last night, so something positive came of it. Nice bunch of guys,
too. If any of you like that kind of music, I recorded their show
earlier this summer and I could hook anyone up with a copy. They have to
potential to be very big one day.
