Riding in this morning I found myself singing a little song, to the tune of "Twilight Time". It could use some work, but I like it:
As we're now getting to September It's squirrel time As we get closer to October It's squirrel time Gathering nuts and not giving a f**k About where they go September, it's squi-r-rel ti-i-ime
Still, I only had two squirrels running across my path this morning. Just a taster of the weeks to come.

You can buy a metal cage trap on the web for £15-20. Peanuts are a good bait for urban squirrels. Never try to handle a live squirrel, they're vicious, just drop the whole trap in your water butt and drown them. Hang for 3-4 days then get back on the web for recipes.

Roadkill squirrels are good if fresh and not too damaged - try them in a mixed roadkill stew with pheasant, rabbit, hare and pigeon.
and some people want to killfile wafflycat - the mind boggles and the stomach revolts.
Saw a roadkill squirrel today lying in the middle of the road lying on its back with its paws in the air. I can't say I was tempted... -- Chris
In 1750 Issac Newton became discouraged when he fell up a flight of stairs.
I saw a stoat today on my ride in (best time yet, 2:15 for 27.25 hilly miles) it appeared to be dancing on the corpse of a hedgehog. It ran around the corpse a few times, did a few back flips and hind leg stands. Then it saw me and came over all self-conscious and ran into the verge. As I cycled past the dead hedgehog it clearly wasn't a recent kill, it looked more like several day old road kill.
A short while later I saw a deer and then a fox. (Ignoring all the dead and living rabbits and pheasants that litter my route.)
