Im after anyones opinion on the best shoe for running. Ive always used Nike
Air or Air Max shoes for running and have done for years.
I was first informed by a Doctor to get such a shoe as I needed maximum
cushioning for running to avoid impact injuries.
They have served me well however only now I've really stepped up my tempo
with regards to running. Ive joined a club and run most days and do speed
work/intervals.
Since doing this Ive developed shin splints and I've been out for a couple
weeks.
Ive been told by other forums that Nike shoes are pathetic for running. So
now im at a loss as years ago i tried adidas to no avail and found the
impact it caused me was huge and have also tried Asics. I found that yeah
the gel moulds to your foot better but the foot strike on the ground didnt
appear to be as soft. I just found the Nike had way more cushion.
So what is a good shoe if Nike are causing runners problems worldwide?

I'm a bit of a nubie but from advice I've gotten here and from others.
I tried a pair of Brooks Radius 05's They seem to have a lot more
cushioning than the New Balance and Adidis that I tried on. Being
softer, they will wear out faster though.
I've been told that Mizuno Wave Creations are one of the best for
cushioning too. Next pair I'm going to check on them.Robert Megee

Nike aren't causing problems to serious runners worldwide, any more
than other brands.Good running shoes are made by the following (and surely a few more
I've missed):Adidas
Asics
Avia
Brooks
Diadora
Etonic
Fila
Hershey
Icebug
La Sportiva
Loco
Merrell
Mizuno
Montrail
New Balance
Nike
Puma
Reebok
Salomon
Saucony
VitruvianThe key of course is to find a good shoe *for you*, as the Air Max
apparently were before you ramped up your running (I don't know of any
serious runners who wear Air Max, FWIW). -

how's those injurys coming along? I think they should take advice from
someone like me, with a 9 mile a day running habit, and a 1/4 of a
century of injury free running, rather than a newbie who is injured
more than he runs.TBR

Listen people, if you're a, uh, "substantial" person on the wrong side
of 200 pounds by a fair margin, and your pace is 14 minutes a mile or
slower, and your "running" mechanics are similar to Bill's (remembering
that Bill does no stretching, and has some spinal malformation bad
enough that it ought to kill him soon) - then by all means, Bill's
experience may hold some relevance for you. Even then you must bear in
mind that he's a flake who one day is in rapturous love with the NB
666-BRCK or whatever model, and the next day he hates it hates it hates
it. -

So, how's that INJURY Chuck? Hurt a lot? Swollen? Red? Burning pain?
Gee, it's been about 25 YEARS since I've had that problem, so forgive
me if I laugh at your ignorance and weakness ha ha ha ha haTBR

Who's the idiot now,
This is a question based on the response I got from my previous post.
My previous post was about shin splints and in response the shoes were
possibly the cause, but no info given on that topic,,
so this addresses the next question.
So it might pay to get the facts straight"The Bill Rodgers" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

So what is a good shoe if Nike are causing runners problems worldwide?Nike are fine shoes. The key here is: if it works FOR YOU, use it.
I've used them and other brands. Nike have never caused me any
injuries. With that said, you should know it has no bearing on your
selection of shoes.Don't worry about Bill. He hates Nike (I think his father ran off with
a Nike salesman), has a bad back (ask his chiropractor), and is a
general troll. With his posts you need to sift thru a lot of [censored] to
find the occasion good post (yes he does have one or two out there). The answer you need is: get to a running shoe store!
Note: NOT the mall stores that sell sporting goods or even just sport
shoes (running, basketball, "cross trainers", etc.).Ask your fellow running club members where they go for shoes. They may
even be able to suggest models and brands much better than we can. We
cannot see your running form.Good luck and keep moving!

At the recent Noosa half marathon here in Australia, there was a Nike shoe
display where we got to try on their shoes for a quick run. What's
interesting is that the man who was in charge of the display had various old
pairs of other brands of running shoes, that had been carefully sawn in half
(lengthwise) with a circular saw. I have been running in Asics' Gel Kayanos
for the last 2 years, and he had a sawn-in-half pair of those at hand. I was
shocked to see that the sole of the shoe is essentially all rubber foam with
a pathetic little wafer-thin piece of "gel" wedged in the heel. The "gel"
(it looked like a piece of stiff plastic to me) was about 4cm long, 2 cm
wide and a mere 1mm thick! I really don't see how this could add much to the
"cushioning" effect of the shoe. Apparently the "gel" is not the squishy
semi-liquid fluid substance that I imagined it to be, as it was in the good
old days. There seems to have been some curious changes made to the
definition of "gel cushioning" in recent years. Anyway, that's probably why
the Asics "cushioning" didn't feel very soft for you!!! The man told me that
most "gel" running shoes are now like this in order to make the shoes
lighter. I'm now trying a pair of Nikes, for the better cushioning.
Comparing the "insides " of different brands of shoes was a real eye-opener."Merlin" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

You really are a dipshit, you know that? You fell for it. Your
knowledge of running shoes is also pathetic.
The Asics were fine with you UNTIL Mr Nike showed you how much better
his foam was. Know what stupid? Nike uses air instead of gel, you know
why? It's free. So if it's free, why are nikes 30% to 50% more than a
comparable shoe? Why do nikes fall apart after only a few hundred
miles? Why do nikes have the highest defect ratye in the business? Why
do nikes cause more injuries than ALL OTHER BRANDS COMBINED?
You are S--U-C-K-E-R! I'll look forward to your "I'm injured. Help
me?" post that'll be coming up soon.TBR
