EPO is naturally occuring substance in the body so just it's presence doesn't say much. I know they test for quantities of specific proteins in the urine to try to quantify the amount of EPO in the body. Too many of these protiens and you are considered positive for EPO. But if your numbers are under a certain percentage then you are considered clean.
So my question is this, how could high percentages of proteins last for 6 years? Were the samples frozen or just refrigerated?
Surely that has to be paramount to the accuracy of the test. The degradation of these "basic isoforms" would certainly occur over time. Anyone familiar with the specifics on that?
Something has to change over 6 years so do they allow for that based on storage?
There seemed to be lot left out of the story other than that they are experimenting.
The only thing I can really say to that thing is Holy [censored]! Is that the science that these guys careers are riding on? I've spent enough time in a lab (maybe 20 credit hours worth over the years) to know that the "Sample Preparation" comments alone would scare the [censored] out of me as a racer.
No wonder the think you need at least 80% to have a positive, when anything over 40% would be above the normal range.
"...any change to sample preparation may affect the isoform distribution..."
That gives added meaning to "need a B sample to confirm".
