Hi all. Been lurking for a while. Learned lots of good information
about low-carb.
What is the most that anyone has reported losing on low-carb?
Anyone anywhere, or here in the group?
I'm at about 166, unless you accept my fully dressed number at the start and
nude number currently, which would make it 175.
311/153.9/150
(328 fully dressed around 2001)
311 was about where I started low carb.

wow. I was thinking of anyone anywhere.
I only lost 25 lbs and I am thanking my lucky stars that that is all I
had to lose.

We've had a few people who lost over 150lbs: Dr. Bill, Violet,
and Myra come to mind.

Well, its great for the people that actually lost the weight.
However, when you lose that kind of weight I do wonder about the
whole 'loose skin' issue. That must be kind of a [censored] to deal with.

What kind of weight? Cubit has said that he isn't having any [censored] issues
to deal with. I've lost 142 lbs and I don't have any [censored] issues to deal
with....much more serious issues to deal with would be keeping the weight
on.....
I have been worried about the prospects of loose skin. So far, in areas
such as my legs, face/neck, and arms the skin has recovered and sucked back
in. In areas that still have some fat, it is like what is sometimes called
loose skin. This would be the backs of my upper arms and the lower belly
area. The actual result can't be known until the fat is gone. The skin
does not have enough elasticity to pull the fat up into place, but once the
fat is gone, there is a chance the skin will recover.
I have seen pictures of loose skin after morbid obesity, and they look much
worse than my situation. Also, such pictures usually still have fat
present.
My BMI is now: 23.4

I always smile when I read your posts, Cubit. You are indeed an
inspiration.
On a personal note, I hit 150 pounds down this morning, and it feels
great!! Only 3 1/2 to go. I love it.
Skin? *sigh* I have some problem areas, I'll admit, but when I'm
dressed, they're so not even noticeable to people who just look at me.
I'm my own worst critic. The lower stomach, the way upper thigh, the
arm "wings"... but properly dressed, these things are not an issue for
me. I feel great!
Have a great weekend!

Thanks Nicole.
It looks like you've got me beat this month.
Clothing can hide the skin problems, but I want to take my best shot at
recovery. So, I figure I've got to get all the fat off, while keeping
nutrition that the skin would need to re-form itself. The actor that played
Batman recently, went way underweight for a movie called "The Machinist."
He then rebuilt himself into being buff enough to play Batman. So, it can
be done. I'm not planning to be a muscle builder, but I am thinking of
raising my weight after I get it low enough to try to fix things.
I'm already getting opposition from people I know. They can't see the fat
areas. One woman I know told me she thought I looked anorexic.
I never heard the "wings" term before. [shudder]

I imagine that the majority, if not *all* people who lose a LOT of
weight have that problem if they lose it fairly quickly. I don't think
the skin can keep up, no matter how much elasticity it has.

Ugh... it's not something I planned. I wanted to lose this last weight
much slower, and it's weird. All of a sudden my carbs are up and my
weight is shooting down. I don't get it. It may be that over the past
month I've gone off an anti-depressant I've been on for a LONG time...
perhaps it was one that slowed loss? Either way, I'm upping 10 grams
per week according to the pre-maintenance plan on Atkins. Just
basically adding veggies I haven't had in a long time... and some
fruit. I'm concerned that I'm not leveling quick enough to stop when I
hit my goal weight. My doc does not want me under 130 under ANY
circumstances. That gives me 7 pounds of play under my goal weight,
but it still makes me nervous.

Yes, weight lifting is in heavy consideration... unfortunately that
means $$$... membership somewhere that I can't afford.

I'm fortunate here. I have access to an excellent gym and I only pay
$44.00 for 3 months. No initiation fee, no contract fees, no startup
costs. Just a straight per month (or quarterly) membership fee.
Seriously, try Oshman's sporting goods for a set of dumbells. It's NOT
that expensive. Also, raid some local garage sales! Thousands of people
every year buy weight equipment with the best of intentions and never
use it and later sell it for a fraction of what they paid for it!
You can also do miraculous things with just body weight exercises:
http://www.cbass.com/Furey.htm
This is just a start. There are numerous websites for this sort of thing.
It's good for ya! ;-)
