snapped spoke on new rim

125psi is a maximum, not a requirement. If the tires feel rough, lower the pressure. Depending on your weight, you can probably go down to 95-100 without risking pinch flats.

When I used Armadillos they gave me the roughest ride ever, the casing is very inflexible. No broken spokes though. The tyres started letting in punctures after about a year; my Schwalbe Marathons give a better ride and have lasted longer than that with no punctures and very little wear.

It is not the tires that caused the spoke to break. It is probably because the NEW wheel is likely improperly tensioned. There was a long thread recently on one of the related cycling forums about stock/machine built wheels and proper truing/tensioning. Several of the responses are by Jobst Brandt, one of the leading experts on handbuilt wheels.

Another possibility is that the new wheel/spokes are too lightweight for your use. Even a properly built wheel can be overloaded.
