This is due to a recently-passed set of regulations prompted by the helmet-law lobby. It also
resulted in a requirement that all cyclists

What? What are you talking about? I'd really, really like to see chapter and verse on that MVA
amendment.

Current relevant MVA regs as I understand them. Recent precedent on riding to the right (BC uses a
"practicable" rule, which generally favours the cyclist's judgment):

I don't see it in either place, but I believe cyclists _may_ use paved shoulders when available.
Unpaved shoulders? Not practicable 🙂.

So there aren't too many bikes with skinny tyres in BC then?
James
No, there are the usual proportion, I assume. Most urban areas have paved shoulders, and the
relaxed attitude of police forces regarding (trivial) infractions of the Motor Vehice Act means
that unless there is a politician making silly noises, helmetless and sensible road users are not
bothered. I suspect that not many members of the police actually know the details of the Act
regarding cycle use etcetera.
Are you sure you have this right? I'd like to see chapter and verse from the MVA, and preferably a
court precedent. When do you think this law was passed?
