I quit cycling about 5 years ago because my right hip started going out on me. I now have a new supermetal hip. About 4 weeks ago, I got a new bike and started riding again. I want to lose about 20 pounds and ride about 50 miles per week on a regular basis.
This morning I was cruising along alone thinking I was doing pretty well when 2 riders passed me like I was sitting still. They were friendly but I couldn't help thinking that they were thinking 'What's that old slow fat man doing on a road bike.' In 5 minutes they were gone...
Was riding by myself Sunday afternoon just tooling along with my mind a million miles away when another rider came up behind me. He announced his presence with a hearty 'Hello' and I just about went into the ditch because he scared the bejuze out of me. I would have heard a car or any other type of vehicle but not a bike.
I've been doing a ride schedule similar to that for about 8 years now. I lost 40 pounds but gained it all back on, my fitness has drastically improved over the years tho. I ry to do 3 to 4 rides a week of at least 15 to 20 miles each including a spinning class once a week.
There's always gonna be somebody faster than you..............try to think EXERCISE IN MODERATION😄

Don't worry about getting passed. I find myself getting passed from time to time, it just inspires me to work harder.
Just about everything passes me when I'm in the saddle. I used to train all the time, mornings, nights, weekends and did a bit of racing too. One day I took a corner way too fast and one of best bikes I ever owned was scrapped. That kinda killed the competitive streak in me. If you enjoy cycling, just continue to enjoy it no matter how fast you're going.🙂
