Great pic's thanks, Sean, and particularly the perspective of Stickle
Tarn, Harrison Stickle and Pavey Ark.
I did Jack's Rake again a couple of months ago, and it scared me half
to death 🙂
What is scary about it?
It looks OK in the photos...... or am I not seeing what those of you
who have done it are seeing?!
It's very steep, narrow and exposed in places.
I'd always be scared doing it because of my problem with heights, but
that was exacerbated when I did it a couple of months ago by the fact
that I was carrying a 50L sack with my w/e backpacking kit in, and I
got stuck in a particuarly narrow bit.
I just could'nt get any further, and got to the stage where I was
truly wondering whether I'd be able to hang on long enough for the MR
to pick me off - it was genuinely frightening. Fortunately, though,
one of the blokes I was with (had just met them earlier that morning)
was v. good with heights. He left his day sack and descended, I
managed to wriggle out of my sack and pass it to him, he lifted it
over the obstruction and I was able to go down a step and up by
another, more exposed but less narrow route. It really was very
exciting, once I'd got over the naked terror.
The lesson is not to do it again with a large sack. At the time I felt
the lesson was not to do it again under any circumstances, but I'l
have another go this year, I think, minus the impediment 🙂
Best wishes,
