Woke up to a loud bang, followed by loud beeping from the standalone
vibration alarm attached to my sliding glass door. This was around 2am.
The only way the alarm goes off is if someone tries to open the door, or
does anything to the door that causes the glass to vibrate.
Switched on the outside light, couldn't see anything. It had been stormy
so I figured the wind may have blown something against the glass. Went
back to sleep, had another look in the morning but couldn't find
anything.
Came home this evening, and was admiring my favourite bike which had
recently come back from the LBS. Had some new wheels (32sp Alex), new
cluster, new Ultegra derailer, new chain and new Conti tyres and tubes.
It shifts oh so sweetly. Then noticed the front tyre is off the rim and
the blown tube is hanging out. I'd pumped both tyres up to the usual
120psi the night before. The bike was around 4 meters from the sliding
door. The door has blinds hanging in front of the glass. I couldn't find
any evidence that bits of rubber had hit the glass. I can only assume
the loud bang and/or sudden release of air pressure was enough to set
off the alarm...
No idea why it decided to pop some 6 hours after I pumped it up.
Replaced tube, couldn't see any good reason for the failure.
