    They practice gymnastics. A lot.

Considering the huge investment of time and effort, gymnastics
would not seem to be a useful method of building a physique
    for the average trainee.

6-8 hours of technical training 5-7 days a week seems silly
if a physique is all you want. For that, 2-3 hours a week
of weight training more than suffice.

I am not so convinced that it is the training exclusively that gives them a
gymnast body, rather they gravitate toward gymnastics because of the type of
physique, strengths, agility that they possess, AND the way they train.

A good, balanced routine of bodyweight and resistance exercise, not
isolation exercises, rather multijoint exercises. In other words, train
    smart.

Really good genetics and a whole lot of gymnastics. Apparently very little
    by way of weight training.

Well, first of all they're gay and short, so you must be gay and short
too. If you aren't, work at that.
And then swing around like monkies all day. You ought to, as well.

They are in great shape, but a man who has arms twice the size of his
legs, is not the "perfect physique".

Vikki, are you speaking of appearance or the functional aspect? I
assume it's the /look/ of the male gymnast that's caught your eye
rather than their balance, spring, flexibility and strength.

I agree with Jay and Peter Allen (elsewhere in this thread) that it's
genetics that is the dominant factor in relation to a gymnast's
    physique.

My high school best friend had/has very broad shoulders. He always said
it came from swimming. Upon visiting his home and meeting his father
and his two older brothers I realized it was genetics rather than
training. They *all* had seemingly yard-wide shoulders.

Likewise, I guess, tiny guys with great spring gravitate to a sport
    that fits them.

If I wanted to develop what I think of as the stereotypical gymnast's
physique, I'd forget about squats and deads and concentrate on tricep
work, all form of deltoid and traps/lats work as well as attempt to
wittle my waist down to nothing. Male gymnasts have incredible strength
and skill. Just think of an iron cross. Unbelievable. How do they DO
    THAT?

Jordan Jovtech doesn't fit that description. Who is the arbiter of the
"perfect physique", anyway? There is no such thing, outside of the beauty
contests that interest a very small minority.

  11. Excellent point.

  12. Its mostly "isometric" that using using the full weight of their
own bodies for hours every day. Do that and you may look
    like that.

Our college's gynastic team used the student weight
room for a few weeks when theirs was being refurbished.
These guys were not using very heavy weights, very few into
    over a hundred pounds.
