Nice Jerseys

You can get some nice jerseys, or you can get some at a good price, but not both. You may not appreciate it, but the fit and function of the "good stuff" (like Castelli and Assos) is so superior to the "value" brands that you actually spend less in the long run. Bite the bullet and shell out the bucks for high quality stuff. Castelli has a "simple sleeveless" jersey for about 65 USD that I wear as 1st choice. You can get them at any of the online catalogs that cater to more elite riders (like Colorado Cyclist, Excel Sports, etc.).

Sleeveless jerseys are not allowed in races - even in the local circuits. Sucks to be sure, but if you want to race in sleeveless then you have to do multisport.

They dont wear them because they look like [censored],imo.

Sleeveless jerseys are available at PerformanceBike.com in red, blue, white, gold and copper.

Weren't the SAECO riders in sleeveless jerseys (and strapless helmets) in the TdF?

I might have to watch the coverage again, but I could have sworn they were in several stages...

YES, Saeco was in sleeveless.

Sleeveless jerseys, as we'll as any socks that come close to reaching your ankle should be banned!

But I've never heard of them being banned anywhere in the world before.

"SECTION 3: RIDERS’ APPAREL
1.3.026 General provisions
All riders shall, when racing, wear a jersey with sleeves and a pair of shorts, possibly in the form of a one-piece. By shorts it is understood that these are shorts that come above the knee. Jerseys without sleeves shall be forbidden."

Sleeveless should just be reserved for girls since they shave their pits. It's just not a manely site. Can you just imagine the peleton in the tour all riding in sleeveless jerseys. Besides, the sleeves give sponsers more places to advertise.

Why follow the pack when you can lead them (at least fashion-wise).

Take a smallish t-shirt, cut off the sleeves (instant tank top) and the bottom (to a shorter length). The cotton dries quickly as you ride, plenty of ventilation entering/exiting, and way cheap. In dry CA heat, works beautifully. And leaves you cash to buy real hardware and you don't feel like a wannabe, conformist schmuck in his bikie uniform. For what its worth, I still use Mavic retrofriction shifters and Campy platforms......AhHa you say...no wonder: a retro geek!

That is so odd, because watching the coverage last night (I tivo'd the whole thing 🙂 ) There is CLEARLY a shot of Salvatore Commesso (SAECO) in a sleeveless jersey with a really funky looking strapless helmet...

At first I thought maybe he had just rolled his sleeves up (was looking for the telltale bulge of the pack of cigarettes too *laughing*) but they looked entirely sleeveless...

I'll have to do more digging and see if I can find more pictures...

by the way, does anyone else besides me think Commesso looks more like a bowler, than a cyclist? 🙂 No offense to him, but he just seems to be a bit chunkier than the rest 🙂

why buy a "riding jersey" when you can go to a ocal running shop , pick up a cool max shirt on sale for $10. cut the sleeves off or leave them or buy a sleeveless for the same.....unless you just can't live without the newest latest greatest. i catch some ribbing from a couple of riding buds but rather have the $50 in my pocket.

I don't know who he is, but if he's chunky by cycling standards, he's probably only moderately skinny. Which is a good thing. Waifs belong on the supermodel runway circuit. A man should have some f-ing muscle! ;-)

Sleeveless? Never liked the look myself. Especially on cyclists with broomhandle pipes hanging down from them. ;-) I draw the line at ANY adverts on my gear. Plain colors only.

Yes, like Andy Hampston... a real wimp in that pink winner's jersey in Italy. Give us a break, Aztec........."real" men need a lot more than a set of guns to succeed. Besides, a set of guns body type often foretells a gut grazing the top tube in future life. Manly? Yeah, right. :p

Cap'n -- You know, I always was offended by that pink jersey. Thanks for reminding me! You are right, though, it takes more than a set of pipes... better have some oaks between the hip and knee. As for the gut on the top tube, point very well taken.

But I still await a good case for all that ad-wear I see so often...

I'll hold out for a heart of oak rather than an oaken crotch, er. quads. Honestly, I'd take 'em all if available.

As far as wearing gila monsters, beer companies, etc. on your chest...I totally agree. Team jerseys?..maybe if you're a hardcore fan....mostly I think I'll wait until Postal or Bianchi invites me to ride on the team. (I may have a long wait!) Plain, simple and cheap works best for me...Team Amish--except the beard.

I always admired Andy H....did well for a runt. Admittedly, pink not so appropriate...maybe Tour de Castro St. in San Francisco.
