for derilict. Such as I hadn't seen a thread on Monkeys, strippers,
japamation, or the evils of bowflex in quite some time it was only
logical to assume that it had been abandon, and it was the those
remaining mfw patriots that were carrying on the dog threads.

Well, I tried to start a combination gun and dog thread with the Game
Fair thread. Buddy is going to do the Eukanuba Scurry and maybe the
obstacle course which are two of the fun dog events i.e. not serious
competition like the Retriever Championships. I haven't worked with
him enough for him to do that.

I just might try one of the shotgun events. The only problem is, I
haven't fired my shotgun since last November or December. I'd rather
they have a pistol or rifle event but I can understand why they don't.

I just got done reloading some .44 mag rounds. With everything I've
invested in reloading, I figure it'll be a long time before I start
making my money back:-)

But, that's not the main reason I'm reloading. I like shooting tiny
groups and reloading is about the best way to do that. I've got
everything set up on a 2X12 and then I clamp that into a folding Tool
Shop work center so that I can take it to the range with me and work
up a load right there. I haven't done it that way yet but I'm now set
up to do that as of this past weekend.

not...it's set up. But if the loads aren't accurate, you have five boxes of
[censored]. It would be nice to re-load on site with different powder / bullet
combinations and see what works well before re-loading a ton of shells.

The other issue is you are a better shot some days. Maybe too much
coffee...whatever. But to test different loads on the same day, same
weather and range settings would be ideal in my mind.

For me, I would load up 12 rounds of each so I have two groups to average
out. And clean between ammo sets.

I actually read about the idea online. The guy used a Black and
Decker Workmate. The Tool Shop was only 15 bucks and the B&D was over
50. Now the B&D is on sale for $28. I should have waited as the Tool
Shop is going to need some modifications as it can't clamp the 2X12
tight enough (too much play) to prevent the press from popping the
board up while resizing or even crimping.

There might be something to not cleaning if you plan on doing a lot of
target shooting/competition...see how the load is reacting in a dirty
gun. For hunting, I'd definitely clean. Here in Minnesota, you'd
need to work up your loads in some very cold weather for hunting as
well as some mild temps. My family's best year ever hunting was a
year that all the deer were killed in 60-75 degree weather in
November...96 if memory serves. It was also a great golfing year as I
was able to play golf AFTER the firearms season (December...Woot!
Bring on global warming baby).

Took my two younger boys to hunter's safety tonight for their first class.
Three hours, and 2 1/2 of it was [censored]. They're covering clothing, how it
should be comfortable. They're talking about how you should get a doctor's
exam if you're over 30 before a strenuous activity like hunting. They spend
a bunch of time on hunting ethics, like using gates, getting landowner
permission, etc. Are people really that stupid? And what does any of that
have to do with the safe handling of a firearm? Some things should be
taught by the father, not the State.

Switching gears, I talked to the head of Oregon's hunter safety last week
about the cougar population in our state. About 12 years ago, the libs here
outlawed hunting them with dogs. It was "inhumane". But, that's the only
way to hunt them. So everybody stopped.

At that time, the cougar population in Oregon was 2,000 - 2,500 according to
Oregon Dep. of Fish and Wildlife. The guy I talked to said the ODFW now
estimates the cat population between 15,000 on the low side to as many as
40,000. Which is why there is no more deer, and why hardly anybody can draw
tags anymore. I asked him why somebody in ODFW doesn't go public with the
fact that the deer are being decimated by the cougar, and he said that the
Sierra Club has threatened to sue anybody personally that does. They have
their own "science", and will make whoever says anything withdraw their
statement and make them look like a fool in court. So...everybody keeps
their mouths shut. I have not verified all this. This is just what he told
me.

Each cat kills on average one large game animal per week. You do the math.
Murder's Creek, one of my favorite hunting places, will need 20 preference
points to draw a tag next year. It has become a once-in-a-lifetime hunt.
