  1. I have been cycling for about 3 weeks now, and I'm really dedicated.

I'm 15, weigh 170lbs and am 6 foot 2. I want so start competitive cycling.

    I have a Raliegh 5000.

I currently ride at an average of about 15mph, and I ride about 10 miles a day.

Could anyone give me some advice? eg what weight training should i do etc.

  2. Where do you live?

Don't worry about weight training, but spend more time training.

Its important that you join a club, so you can learn what cycling is all about. Also a coach can help and some are free. If you live in the UK, contact British Cycling World Class Start or Coaching and Education for links with a club or coach. If you don't like talking on the phone ('cos your only 15) send them an e-mail.

  3. You may have to ride a lot more. Depending on your goals 250-500 miles a week is the norm for a competitive cyclist. If it's just for fun then my 75 year old dad gets 175 miles a week.

You'll need to build up to these levels over a number of years. As your only 15 and races aren't that long; lower weekly milages would be more appropriate. Get a coach to help you out.

  5. I am also 15 but not as dedicated then he is, because I live in a hilly town, If I keep training will the hills be easier to pedal, because I am really have a hard time.

I currently ride about 70 miles a week, because i have school, work and a lot of homework. How far do you think i should be going a week?

They definitely get easier the more you ride them. I’m in a moderately hilly area myself and towards the beginning I would dread coming back up a relatively step hill (wish I knew the grade, but I don’t). As the weeks progressed it became increasingly easier. Now I find myself spending one day each week just riding the hill up and down until I’m severely knackered. Just keep at it and soon you’ll be having fun (or as much as one could have while climbing a hill😄)
