pre-Trek Lemond frames

Have you tried contacting Lemond? Even though they're Trek-owned now, they might have info on file about the older models.

Hi, yes I did try them and their customer service is terrible 😠 - I won't be buying either a Trek or new Lemond if thats anything to go by. The have just completely ignored my email - not even replied to tell me they don't know anything pre-trek.

That's very strange, as Trek customer service has been amazing for me. I've emailed them twice via their web page contact form, and both times they've gotten back to me within a day. And for warranty claims they're amazing.

the Lemond side of the business seems less professional. I filled in the contact us form a week ago, but still no reply....

It's a VERY unusual shape, 50cm seat tube (C-C) and 53cm Top Tube (C-C), the seat tube angle seems really relaxed to, probably about 73 deg. And it is absolutely perfect for me - I'm 5'6", but have short legs and long body.

A friend told me the frame was likely to have been made for a GAN rider as the geometry is so unusual, but as we have never managed to compare it directly with another GAN frame we don't know for sure.

The frame number is 40274, it has the engraved cast brake bridge and bottom bracket shell, slightly rounded fork cast crown with an 'L' in a triangle painted white. Has the frame number and 50cm GLX stamped into the bottom bracket.

Any info that anyone has would be greatly received and photo's can be supplied if needed.

That bike has the classic geometry that Greg LeMond preferred: Long top tube, stretched out body position, laid back seat angle.

If you want something similar that is available these days, look at an Eddy Merckx. He uses the same philosophy with current 50cm models sporting a 53-53.5 cm top tube and about 73.5 seat tube angle.

Brilliant! Thanks, I've been looking for someone who made frames to a similar design but everyon seems to be doing square designs at the moment which just don't suit me at all. I'll check out the Merkx site.
