I didn't quite understand the ramifications of the problem when I was advised but it turns out the entire mailing list for the Cheese list was lost.
The result is that there are now only 18 members and no way I know of to get the attention of the hundreds that were lost and probably think the list is on vacation.
If you know anyone that was on the list, please contact them and ask them to re-subscribe.
I will post this to alt.cheese which is the only other list I know.
