AFAIK - no, the 9sp chain is too big for the spacing of the rear sprockets -

shifterAye, ya can. Ya can use a ten speed derailleur for eight speed, too. The only difference is that the pulley width is a teeny tad smaller for ten speed. It doesn't matter in practice - just like the slightly narrower chainrings for ten speed.
