I've been using Shimano 959s for over a year now, and I have been completely satisfied. Good engagement, just about the right amount of float, good release and decent mud clearing. I just bought my second pair for my new ride.

I have Shimano SPD 515 and they are pretty good but when they get muddy I have big problems trying to unclip. but that's the only time they give me greif. For the price you can't go wrong really.

Never had a real problem with 515'sif tension set reasonably low. Very good quality spd for the money.
