Saturday. I managed to see three of the pre-season friendlies and we
were good in parts.

I can't believe the season is here again, so soon.

trying to make the summer last as long as possible without letting
Association Football ruin my life!

Hexamine can be mixed with a number of simple ingredients to make high
explosive, very, very nasty and very unstable.

There are any number of explosive compounds that can be made from what
are, to all intents and purposes, household items. Like that old
favorite Ammonium Nitrate (fertiliser) and petrol, VERY Powerful!

This is where the problem lies for the police, a terrorist doesn't
need to buy HE from some dodgy source and risk getting caught. All
they need is someone with a fairly basic knowledge of chemistry and
they can make it in the kitchen at home.

Don't forget that military grade explosive isn't just about the
destructive power. Most of the work goes into making it stable and
safe to carry about, even in combat conditions. Some of the 'amateur'
stuff is just as effective but it doesn't keep and just opening the
container can set it off. The invention of Dynamite was more about
making Nitro Glycerin safe to handle and transport than anything else.
It's inventor Alfred Nobel was so famous for it that we now have the
Nobel prize.

treament for urinary infections. I guess the stuff we burn is not
medicinal grade though!

I think it works by setting fire to your trousers and <voila!> no more

Where our British authorities let themselves down is their failure to
consider how the Internet makes all kinds of information available to
anyone with a PC and Internet connection. The also seem to have missed
the whole satellite TV thing as well.

When the bombs went off in London the BBC and Sky were pushing the
power problem story and the tried and tested 'somethings happened but
we don't have details yet' story. At the same time CNN & FOX were
already talking about terrorists and nail bombs, about the
similarities to the Madrid bombing and were even saying that terrorist
activity was confirmed by Scotland Yard.

This would presumably be because Scotland yard were sharing
information with the US and European authorities and because of their
freedom of information act the US authorities were passing the info to
the US news services who were putting straight out on air.

Of course in the US if someone in a false beard and dark glasses goes
into a camping store and buys 10,000 Hexamine fuel tabs, telling the
shop assistant he's off up the great green greasy Limpopo river for 6
months, that assistant might be a little suspicious and ring the FBI.

Meanwhile in south London another bloke in a false beard and dark
glasses is doing the same thing in a branch of Yeomans Army stores and
the shop assistant has no idea what the fuel tabs could be used for
and says nothing, not even a week later when the bombs start going off
because they have no idea the two events may be connected.

When are our government going to stop treating us like children? If
history teaches them anything it's that the truth will usually find a
way of getting out.

No way.... Its all the same story, like the unusable weather TV
forecasts.. I wonder if we are not told about hexamine because its a
"boffin " word about complicated chemicals and we must not worry our
tiny little minds about it.

As one of the about 60 million anti terrorist operatives on this
island I would love to know what constitutes suspicious. Not just
taking photos in an industrial estate or wearing a beard.

I used citrate during foot and mouth as part of a portable
disinfectant kit. Was questioned when buying it - its popular with IV
drug users apparantly, as well as evil jam makers who are undermining
the nations heath with scrummy.....

Hexamine on its own is almost as bad!

And dont go painting caravans with Nitrogen triiodide! Pupils have
told me a few times about that telly program. (Putting a small bit
in the end of a chalk was a favourite trick once)

Shame they kept quiet about armed police in plain clothes wandering
about the place. Not publicising that was a very serious error
bordering on criminal, given the fear in English cities of young men
with guns....

CAreful... They are watching.... and as I have already found out on
