In a recent thread on this subject, I mentioned the maps that were shortly to be published for the four local authorities that make up what used to be Avon. I received an e-mail today with the following (posted to the Bristol Cycling Campaign mailing list, from the minutes of the latest Bristol Bike Forum):
"Avonwide Cycle Map. - The Avon Cycle maps were signed off on July 18th and went off to print on July 20th. It is estimated that the printing process will take 2 to 3 weeks and will therefore be available around August 9th. AW stated that he was very pleased with the final print and thanked the Bike forum for their contribution to the seemingly long iterative process. All users route suggestions were taken into account. He emphasised that the detail wouldn't be perfect but the council envisages annual reprints. If users feel that detail can be improved upon please let AW know as and when as cycle infrastructure is constantly being added to the streets. The four maps will be out within a week of each other."

Which is an old Celtic word meaning river. The River Avon goes rather a long way, so I was wondering whether the maps would extend to e.g. Bradford on Avon, Bath, or other interesting areas close to my in-laws. It is not quite as silly a question as it might at first seem.

Actually, they will cover CUBA, an acronym for Counties that Used to Be Avon.
The 4 local authorities are: Bristol South Gloucestershire Bath & North East Somerset North Somerset
So that sort of area.

London's current bike maps are an update of the Cycle-City maps with useful input from focus groups etc. Are Bristol's?
Not sure about Cycle-city, but ISTR they've been designed by the same people who did the previous Bristol & Bath cycling map. There has been plenty of input from interested parties, I've attended 2 meetings myself. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.
