  1. Hello,

I am contemplating a half IM (Parry Sound, ON). I really want to do
one, but am intimidated by the distances. I'm in good shape and have
done two sprint distance Triathlons so far this season (I'll be doing
    another sprint this Saturday).

I have ridden about a thousand miles on my bike this season. My long
ride is 56 miles in about 3 1/2 hours at an easy pace. My long run is
25K on really hard trails in about three hours. I haven't swam more
than 1/2 mile, but I'm not worried about the swim. I know I can swim
2km; I'll just take it easy.

The half IM is in four weeks. I plan to get in a brick of 30 miles
biking and 10 miles running in the next couple of weeks. I'll also do
some longer (50 or 60 miles) bike rides.

So, what do you think? Do I have enough training in?

    thanks,
    Bob

  2. I would say yes. I did the course last year and can tell you this:

The swim course was short. I don't care what anyone else says, I cannot swim
2km in 30 minutes, even with a propellor on my ass. 😉
The bike was super fun but that's because it was pouring rain and I love
racing in the rain. 😉 But it is not hard at all.
The run was hilly. It starts out dead flat but then you hit 3 hills on the
front and back so each loop you have to do the hills 6 times. Challenging
but fun. I would suggest taking the time to run some hill repeats before the
race for sure. I may be there as well...haven't decided. 🙂

  3. Definitely not crazy - you say you're comfortable with the swim and
you've already trained at the bike and run distances. There'll be
plenty of other people on the start line with similar or worse
preparation than that. (I know, I've been one of them in other events)
    Good luck!

Someone swam the "1.2 miles" in my last half-IM in 14 minutes. If I'm
calculating in my head correctly, that pace would put you in the Olympic
50m freestyle final, or close to it.

    Maybe they were drafting 🙂

It was down hill the whole way
