Here in Philadelphia the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) closed the
walkway on the Ben Franklin Bridge almost 4 week ago in response to the
London subway bombings (and the raised alert level for transit). The
walkway is above the PATCO speedline train tracks.
They did this before (for 6 weeks after the first orange alert in
October of 2001).
This is pretty much the only way to ride a bike from southern New Jersey
to central Philadelphia. One of the DRPAs suggestions has been to take
the ferry, which costs 6 dollars and does not run in the morning.
Is anyone aware of any infrastructure closed (particularly in regards to
non-motorized transport) in recent weeks anywhere else in the country
(and world)?
Thanks,
Jim
