Gday, A long, long, time ago, in a galaxy pre internet I read that a major cause of fatigue was the "jiggling" of the muscles in the arms and such due to road vibration. The article went on to say that one of the main benefit of cycling jerseys was that they helped minize this jiggle. The more I type the more far fetched this is sounding.
Now I'm only a recreational cyclist ( 0 - 200 kms per week depending on my mood) but I've just moved back to a steel frame from an aluminium one. Although the steely is appreciably heavier to carry up the stairs I'm finding I'm riding faster and longer on it than the old aluminium one. My rides are rolling so whilst there are no really steep hills it's continually up and down with typically just enough flat in between so you've gotta work up all the rises( joy). I find particularly on one of the longer hills, which has a pretty poor road surface, that I never used to ride "thru the top" as my tenderised butt needed to come off the saddle at the top to give it a break. Now i just pedal on through.
So in my personal experience it seems that any benefit you get from the lighter frame of aluminium is offset by the fatigue your body suffers as a result of the harsheness of your rides. My 2c worth, Cheers, Will.
True, it is far-fetched. You should explore the possibility that there were difference other than the frame material of the two bikes in question.
Same dimensions and angles. All other components moved over from one frame to the other. Although admittedly the old one was blue and red whilst the new one is just blue.

"Muscle jiggle?" Hmmm. On my usual bike route, I frequently encounter a young person of the female persuasion who is a dedicated runner. If we are both on our normal schedules, we approach each other, me pedaling, she running. And I gotta tell you, she has some fine "muscle jiggle!!!"
