Has anybody tried buying a Polar accessory of late?
I have a S520 HRM and have been trying to obtain a speed sensor for my 2nd bike. I phoned around and nobody seems to stock them. I call in to my LBS to get them to order one; they phone their distributor who tells them that Polar have ceased to deal with them & will be dealing direct.
No mention of this on Polar's website. If I phone Polar UK's number it rings for ages before a very american synthesised voice announces "Sorry, this mailbox is full, please call again sometime later."
Anyone know what's going on, or knows of anywhere that might stock a Polar wireless cycle speed sensor?

You beat me to it. I had to buy a second speed sensor from them since they seem to be the only people with stock. Having used them once, I'd happly use them again. Very friendly and know their stuff.

"Polar Bike Speed Kits are out of stock until further notice. You may pre-order and it will ship as soon as it is in stock. Please note, you are charged at time of order placement. Thank you."

....which is the case just about anywhere. I've since found out that about 6 weeks ago Creative Health Products ceased to be Polar's UK supplier and Polar UK has now been set up. They are both based around Warwick, so there is probably some tie-in there.
Unfortunately the couple of LBSs I spoke to didn't know about this and were a bit miffed that they hadn't been told of the change of supply.
I spoke to someone at Polar UK, and got a few phone numbers of suppliers in my county who had opened an account with them. I asked specifically if the speed sensor was carried as a stock item and was assured that yes, they were in stock. I phoned the only bike shop (the others were sports shops) - AW Cycles of Reading - and when I enquired I heard a voice in the background say "Polar said they don't have stock". Grr. I've left it with my LBS who is going to open an account with Polar and/or get one on pro-forma.
Ho hum... I've got a shiny new Trek road bike and can't even find out how fast it goes! :o(
