Extreme sports are usually recreational sports taken to the limit. The
problem is that unicycling is not considered, by most, a recreational
sport in the first place (with the exception of in the orient).
Almost every kid on the block has owned a skateboard, bike, skis, etc.
So, the average Joe can relate to the extreme level of these sports, and
manufacturers can bet on a return for their investment.
Like it or not, people still relate unicycling with performing - akin to
circus clowns and acrobats.
Unicycling, though a wonderful unique sport, has a long way to go to
gain critical mass. The hundredth monkey is a good reference point, and
the effect can be related to unicycling as well.
