  1. hi,

i am currently in the market for a flat bar road bike < $1000AU, and am tossing up between these 3. Does anyone have any suggestions. it is mainly for commuting to work / uni where there are a few hills but nothing too crazy. i like the avanti but it is kind of heavy and i am a little sceptical about the internal gearing as not many cheaper bikes that i have seen have this. any info / experiences would be greatly appreciated.

    cheers...

  2. Add to the list the Felt SR71 or SR81 if you prefer a triple... I did.. 😎

  3. what do u mean by a triple???

  4. Chainrings,
    the SR71 has 2, 50/34, so its a double,
    the SR81 has 3, 52/42/30, so its a triple,
triples are more useful in hilly country.

  5. gday,

i bought a avanti blade 8 with the nexus 8 about 3 weeks ago.
i got the dealer to fit a new larger crank (42 teeth)(18 on the back) when i bought it, i recomend this. really happy with the bike and gears are smoother than a bently.Gears are nearly low enough for any hill and can cruize along the flat at 35-40 no worries. broke the peddle today though.

  6. Does the latest Blade have a hub gear?

The blade is an awesome bike. I got one as I was just getting into biking and didnt really know what I wanted. I have since moved on from it as I waanted to do proper road biking but am lookng around for another Blade for commuting. I had no problems on it and even managed a 700km tour on it with rear panniers. It is a really good bike. I haven't riden any of the others so wouldn't really be able to comment on them.
