Take off the handlebars. Don't just turn them. Replace the face on the stem so it will not get lost.
I have a soft case that I use. I take both wheels off. Place blocks in the dropouts. Remove the Rear
Deraileur(sp). Don't worry about the pressure in the shock. If you are using a cardboard box. Use
additional peices of cardboard to re-enforce the box to keep from bursting out the sides. Best bet
is to invest in a case that has no evidence that there is a bike inside. Sometimes the airlines
don't catch that there is a bike inside.

As for the shock...probably best to deflate it a little (not all the way). I took my bike to Spain
last year, and my RockShox SIDs survived fine without deflating, but better safe than
suspensionless.

They search it AFTER the ticket window. AFTER all the charges have been made to your credit card.
Usually when you bring your bags up to the ticket counter they pay no attention to what is inside.
That is the job of security. ( Yeah, I have been doing this a while) I flew a bunch last year with
my bike. Another Dozen or so the year before. And the year before.

Is there any way to find out if you can rent a bike in Norway? If I'm not going somewhere for long
and just mean to get a ride or two in, I rent. Removes the worry of that delicate thinwall aluminum
getting crunched after being pitched around by a bunch of malicious baggage handlers too. /s

The _baggage handlers and security folks_ know there's a bike inside. Big deal, bikes aren't
contraband, they fly every day. Those folks could care less what, if any, fees were paid. They're
looking for bombs, drugs, illegal aliens, agricultural items, etc...

The idea is not to let the person collecting the money know the box holds a bike. Trade show
displays, golf clubs, skis, tools, etc... all fly free. Bikes don't on domestic USA flights.

I'd label the box "Fragile - Trade Show Display" and roll it up to the counter. Bikes ARE displayed
at some trade shows! <G>

naa, i doubt they rent such bikes in bergen, this one cost 4500 euro and i cant imagine a dealer
letting one go for rent without at least a huge deposit,besides, im familiar with my bike and dont
