I'm after a GPS for use when walking, and I'm going round in circles looking
at different sites and getting different bits of information
Are there any sites that will show comparative tables ?

Try:
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/handheldcomparison.php
http://www.cycoactive.com/gps/gps_compare.html
http://www.garmin.com/outdoor/compare.jsp
Googling 'gps comparison' lists many others.

First read everything relevant from
http://www.gpsinformation.net/
then head off to the various manufacturer's sites (each of which has a
comparison among the various models).
What you want to use it for, and which (if any) mapping you plan to
purchase, will more or less determine the make. Then you just have to
pick the model 9which your budget may determine).
For walking, if you want maps to take with you (on the GPS) then only
Magellan have any UK topo maps (and those are middling useless .. you
can view bits of them on the Magellan website and see how well they
cover your area). If you want to roll your own, there are many more
people doing it for Garmin ...

" I'm going round in circles " That's because of GPS. Map & compass for use
walking. Unless you are an *EXPLORER*
