Is there another british rider of Tour quality. Millar would make a lot of sense on CSC as he would make them the favorite in the TTT. Hamilton would then be a front runner for 2004. Millars style is also what CSC likes to do with long attacks. On the other hand isn;t CSC in the middle of every rider transfer. Last year I heard that Freire, Evans and Jan were all going to CSC.

Well the UCI seems to think that too many teams only care about the Tour that is why they are trying to make a new series of races. There are a number of teams whose sucess depends soley on the tour: USPS (the vuelta is a side note), CSC, Bianchi, all the french teams, even rabobank was claiming sole focus on the tour. Nonetheless, a rider like Millar needs to win the tour. No one in britain will care if Millar wins the tour of Tour of Lankwi or even the Tour of Switzerland. Futhermore his disproportianatley good TT and prologue ability make him an asset to teams when they need Team Time trials and High profile time trials. If Millar can start your team in the Yellow every year at the TDF finish the race and win a stage elsewhere he is great for second teir teams. If he signed with Confiids i would figure that he was pleased with the new linear organization.

You shouldn;t but Millar probably does. I never said that Millar was a bad bike rider. I was simply saying why he might go to certain teams and I think the tour will be the primary motivation behind any move or non move. If he stays with Confidis it may be because he can be the team leader there. For confidis he is valuable becuase he gives them at least a 50% chance of an early yellow and 75-80% chance of a stage win. I think Confidis wants him for the tour not something else.

For a guy who hasn't done much more than bad mouth his team in the press and vice versa, this is
odd. Serious dysfunction here-hmmmm.

I think there is going to be some major house cleaning at Cofidis or Millar's attitude has limited
his options. Usually riders win big and then develop poor attitudes (Vainsteins, Aitor, VDB,
etc...). Millar has already got it-risky situation for any team especially for the $$$ Millar wants.
Cofidis must like the publicity.

Millar strikes me as a totally self-absorbed egocentric guy, always going off about himself and his
various plights (I should know, I do more than my fair share, but not on TV). For example, his
interview as the ambulance carrying Beloki drove by and he had to move his bike, he looked at the
ambulance and was started saying something, then went back to his own little world and its concerns.

Also, his mechanical in the prologue. I think Bondue was quite correct in pointing out that Millar
insisted on removing the front derailleur, which is well known to lead to chain drop, so shouldn't
have been whining to everyone about bad team equipment. Anyway, cycling is a mechanical sport, so
equipment failure comes with the territory, and should be accepted (though Bernaudeau was still
complaining about a missed shift on the Alpe d'Huez that cost him the stage 20 years ago).
Apparently, the Bondue firing was due to him trying to control everything at Cofidis, but after
seeing the documentary about the 2001 Cofidis Tour de France, you realise how much work the guy was
doing for his riders. However, the French don't like to fire people so he was promoted.
