calves/hamstrings/quads are in a good balance? And what are the
consequences of over/underdeveloped muscles in the respective areas
(ie. underdeveloped innerquads => jumper's knee)?
I'd really appreciate it if someone could actually show evidence rather
than generational speculation that 'strength imablances' between the
vastus medialis and vastus lateralis actually cause or contribute to any
of the problems they're commonly attributed to. Atrength imablances
across the knee joint can contribute to patellar problems, among others.
Strength imabalances between anterior and posterior calf muscles can
lead to overuse injuries such as shin splints. Flaxibility is important,
too, not just strength.

(anterior/posterior/etc) imbalances?
You can get some chronic rotator cuff problems which can lead to acute
injuries from imabalances across the shoulder joint. There are several
types, too. One that most of us are familiar with is the hunched forward
shoulders look. This occurs when there is too much focus placed on
sternal pec development and not enough on the upper back musculature to
balance things out. Another occurs when your shoulders are 'balanced'
front to back but the internal rotators (including the pec major and
lats) are disproportionately stronger that the external rotators (the
external rotators will never be as strong as the internal rotators in
terms of amount of weight hoisted in isolation exercises, but this in
itself doesn't have to lead to injury). Flexibility work for the pecs
and lats in particular as well as rear delt, scapular retractor, and
external rotator work will help prevent these issues. Don't forget that
not all the internal rotators are big and strong like the pecs and lats,
so doing an internal rotation isolation exercise along with an external
rotation isolation exercise is a good idea (all things in balance).

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:
