After a very hard workout, would napping a few extra hours the following day pay off or do you have to sleep many hours consecutively at night to get any benefit?
I read that once you enter a deep slumber that goes on uninterrupted for several hours that then and only then is when human growth hormone is produced...
I know I feel better after a nap, but is this just psychological or does this help recovery?
One thing I keep reading over and over in various books is that most people do not recover enough...
Right now I get a good 8 hours of sleep a night... I was just wondering if more would pay off or if I had reached the point of diminishing returns... If it matters, I am 35 years old and I train 19 hours a week or so...

There is a burst of GH produced almost immediately after falling asleep so naps certainly fit the bill. A nap later the same day would be even better.
