I don't think Lance would ever have forgiven himself to go out without
a stage win. Thought we'd seen next year's winner in Basso but not so
sure now. -

the tour, win by over a miniute, then annonce his retirement.I'd even put money on it- if I was a betting man...

It wasn't, but I reckon it was a safe bet that someone would have
responded with a spoiler whether the header included spoiler or not.
Nice bit of foresight, elyob.I really felt sorry for Rasmussen. I expected him to lose his 3rd place
today, but not by *that* much. ISTM that his rotten luck was partly due
to mistakes because of nervousness.--

the title we're free to discuss the actual events!I feel that his mechanics let him down? He was having problems and then just
frustration, and probably a few tears, clouded the rest of the ride.Lance was awesome. I mean, the bloke is a star. What else can you say?

disaster. To lose out to Ullrich was no disgrace but to drop down as far as
he did must have been heart-breaking.

Possibly. Possibly he was just so nervous and so high with adrenaline
that a bike which was actually perfectly OK just felt wrong. Still, real
shame (and I would /not/ like to have been his mechanic when he got in).
On the other hand, I feel Ullrich has done enough to deserve something
out of this tour, and Rasmussen will keep his spotty jersey anyway, so
perhaps it's justice. In any case, Rasmussen is a star of the future;
he'll get many more chances at this. Ullrich is coming towards the end
of his career. He's had rotten luck this year - especially that major
crash on the day before the start. It would have been a shame if he'd
got nothing in personal glory from this tour.--

Prediction for 2006: Jan Ullrich to train even more than ever, get to
the tour, finish third. He's a great rider, but the best years of his
career were the Armstrong years, and there are too many people on other,
more united teams[1] who are in at least the same league. If you were to force me to put money down, it would go on Basso.
[1] Mind you, with Vinokourov gone, T Mobile will be a better unit. Vino
is a great individualist, but he isn't a team player.--

Not least because of the points Vinokourov brought home.
But I think he was the biggest disappointment this year. I really
thought he could have done well, but he was not at all inspiring.
Basso next year, I guess, since I can't see Ullrich doing it.Guy
