Everything you need to know about smoking is on view in your local cancer ward. My father-in-law is a 20+ years smoker who's coming to the end of his radiotherapy following 6 courses of chemo. I'll give you a quick summary. You won't actually feel a great deal of distress in your lungs beyond a persistant cough. You will, however, vomit relentlessly during your chemotherapy and for 3 or 4 days after each cycle. You will also have a constant metallic taste in your mouth, lose your hair and be unable to eat anything during each cycle of chemo. Don't worry too much about how losing your hair affects your looks; you won't be going outside since walking to the bathroom to vomit will take all your energy. I'm assuming you'll have the where-with-all to actually head to the bathroom - the drugs cause disorientation to the point where peeing your pants can seem quite normal. Then there is the emotional suffering of thinking you are going to die/knowing you are going to die/wanting to die. You WILL experience each every day.

Ride your bike. Enjoy life. It's shorter than we think.

Seriously, how the F is anyone going to know without running a battery of medical tests on you? Go see a doctor if you want a straight answer on this.

  5. You have got to be kidding me! You didn't really ask that on a cycling site did you? They don't go together! WILL POWER MAN!

  6. Whatever you do, stop smoking. Take it from me, I was a non-smoking cyclist and became a smoking non-cyclist. That went on for over 15 years. Thankfully, I am now a non-smoking cyclist again!

Whatever damage that has been done is irrelelvent. Just stop smoking and get on the bike.

Everyone is being hard on you becasue smoking is a really bad thing and if you get the chance to quit without it having premanently destroyed you body then do so...I think by your comment, however, you are a kid that has smoked 10 individual cigarettes. I think you should spend more time worrying about getting hit by a meteorite or falling bird [censored] than any damage done to your body by smoking 10 cigarettes...I am no doctor but common sense rules here.

Get on your bike, go spend sometime at the cancer center and listen to folks with emphazima and/or cancer talk and try to function. Then get back on your bike and ride it out of your system... 🙂

As fragil as the body is it is also extremely resilliant...

  8. Here you go, Im 17, I smoked a pack a day for the past few years. It had no affect on my stamina at all. Well that was untill it was too late and I was physically addicted. Quitting was hard, and rather rediculous, its easier to quit as soon as you can. Im a top athlete in my area in Lacrosse, and Hockey, hopefully Cycling soon too. The fact the the 1st period, or 2nd quarter feels like the 3rd period, or 4th quarter is a really hard thing to overcome. So quit now, and 10 cigarettes, or 10 packs is no damage at all. But it will be when each pack becomes, oh one more before I quit. Quit now. I did, and im recovering, its an amazing thing to be able to get back to the stamina of some couch potato, because mine was so low.
