It's aimed toward racers, but an understanding of tactics is the only thing
that can make the average bike race interesting to a spectator (excepting
the spectator who has an interest in men in spandex).

parts.

The Greg Lemond book (Greg Lemond's Complete Book of Bicycling) is
pretty good on the riding/racing basics. It's not comprehensive on the

history, but there are other books for that, and it does have various
Greg anecdotes as well. I believe it's out of print, but easy to find
copies through Amazon.
