Thanks. You learn something new every day. It's a 590 mm 26 x 1 3/8
(E.A.3) - "Most 3-speeds, department-store or juvenile 10 speeds" according
to Sheldon Brown (you rule, Sheldon!). Anybody know where I can find a pair
of 26 x 1 3/8 tires? I've looked in Nashbar & Performance, but no dice.

Wal*Mart had 26x1 3/8" tires the last time I was there.

There are several sizes of rim which have been called 26 inch over the
years. I suspect that what you have is a wheel that requires a 26 x 1
3/8" tire. It fits a rim with a nominal diameter of 590mm, which is
not the same diameter of wheel as is used on mountain bikes; those are
559mm.

Easily. They were the right size, and they *are* 26", just not the
26" that's used on a mountain bike.

27" is larger than 700C, yes, but it's a small difference.

In addition to the two common 26" sizes (which used to be called
"balloon" and "3-speed racer" in the '60s), there is the S-6 or 597,
the 650B, and the Schwinn S-7. Your chances of running across any of
those latter sizes are quite slim.

WalMart, some of the time (the majority of Mall-Wart stores are so
sloppy about their bike tire and tube inventory levels that it's a
real crapshoot finding anything *useful* there). Any local bike store
will have them or can get them easily. Many sporting goods places
will have them.

Try a Schwinn dealer, or have your LBS order a set for you. That's where I got
new EA3 tires just a few months ago for an old English 3-speed I was restoring.
They were only about $10/ea.

Ross are 26 x 1-3/8 x 1-5/8 EA3 which are 590mm tires.
Mountain bikes are 559mm tires.
