Gawd... I planted some plants today that I got 1/2 price from the nursery down the street. They are going out of business ๐ I bought 3 coreopsis and a butterfly bush. It was hotter than hades outside this morning while I was doing the digging. It didn't take long but I was soaked with sweat anyway. The plants should do well in spite of the heat. Both are hardy.
I came inside, took a cold shower and proceeded to raid the fridge. I wound up making a bagel sandwich. I sliced a garlic bagel, smeared on some spicy brown mustard. I put on some kosher salami, bib lettuce and shaved red onion. The only cheese I had was cheddar (which I sliced and put on the bagelwhich). I had a smidge of deli slaw left and ate it along with the bagelwhich. Dessert was a big Red Delicious apple.
I'm grilling some polish sausages tonight. Not sure what else I'll make. I'm thinking some chilled potato leek soup and grilled asparagus and/or corn on the cob.

Doesn't sound like the heat is going to let up for several days either.

Keep them damp and shaded for a few weeks, even if you have to set up a lawn chair as shade to keep them out of full sun.

Bleah.

I'm hibernating inside with the dog and cat. The dog hates the heat anyway. The cat loves the heat but even she is wearing down. We just woke up from a long nap and I'm about to start the grill.

It has been done. The heat is exceptional so I took some precautions that I normally do not need to. I think they'll be fine. I put in a generous amount of peat in each hole, filled the bottom of the hole with water and let it absorb into the ground. Planted the plants, watered them, covered the area around the plants with mulch (I made a mulch water reservoir about 2 inches from the plant itself) and watered again.
