L'Equipe about his former team leader's qualities as a team captain did
not go down well with said captain. Landis received some very audible

I read it. I don't think it was particularly unfavorable. He said that on
Postal/Discovery Armstrong's relationship with the other riders is that of a
boss to his employees. It is not one of friendship. Floyd didn't criticise
that type of relationship, just stated that that's what it was.

Yes that was mentioned. I think Floyd failed to show up for some mandatory
training ride also and that caused some friction. I'll have to browse that
chapter again next time I'm at the bookstore. I think it may be that he
comes across as some kind of goody two-shoes, or his religious background
(Mennonite) separates him from the team, possibly unintentionally; not
sure...

No, I didn't get that feeling at all. Floyd comes across as a very
interesting character. Says exactly what he thinks when he thinks it. it was
very interesting when Johan was ragging on him for doing so well in the Alp
D'Huez TT when they told him to take it easy. He had to basically kill
everybody on the next stage to prove to them how strong he really was.

Coyle said that Landis and Armstrong were friends and that was the problem.
When push comes to shove, Armstrong will put winning the Tour over
friendship (He calls it the parable of Kevin Livingston).
