I have to admit I laughed when I saw the replay of that "incident". I
like to think the BMW pilot did it on purpose, but it was probably
just the goofball who got flattened slowing down rapidly (something
that's not a good idea when being closely followed by a motor vehicle,
kids).

And since it's the same bike I ride (or it may be the 3-cylinder
version), I was very happy to see that it didn't hit the ground, but
was cushioned by the goofball "fan". Sadly, when they ordered the
bikes for the Tour, they opted for the optional under-engine fairing
or the guy could have had a BMW crankcase tattoo burned into his legs.

Did the videocamera kiss the pavement? That would have been a
tragedy. In the TdF of 2105, maybe they'll have a squad with vaporizer
guns going ahead of the riders, to clear out a safe pathway.

Not to worry - the cameraman nimbly hopped off to the side, and stayed
on his feet.

I think the tour organizers could take a cue from the US traffic
patterns. If the official cars were all Hummers, I doubt that the
riders would have to elbow their way through the spectators. Hmmmm,
maybe there's a market for titanium cow catchers for the front....
