Nobody else seems to be posting or blogging about it, so it falls to me to say that yesterday several hundred of us swam San Francisco Bay, from Alcatraz island to the city of San Francisco.
A fun swim. Brisk water (60F or so), big swells, minor fog. Two ferryboats took us to the starting point on the east side of The Rock. Then we jumped into the water and waited a few minutes for the starting horn, as the remainder of the swimmers left the boat. Finally, ready, set, go. Aim for San Francisco and hope you hit the opening into the protected waters of Aquatic Park. (You must aim left as the current moves left-to-right. A bunch of us ended up too far right and had to fight our way back.)
Finish on the sandy beach at Aquatic Park. Hot cocoa and chowder get you warm again.

Most people I know prefer the South End Rowing Club's Alcatraz swim to the Sharkfest. I don't know why that is, never having swum the Sharkfest myself.
I am glad you had fun! Swimming from Alcatraz gets you style points.
