  1. After not having commuted for 6+ months i thought it best to begin again and put aside my MTB with slicks. So I purchased a new Sirrus pro flatbar on the weekend specialized.comSBCBkModel.jsp

Picked it up yesterday and today was the first commute. (I live in Sydney and ride Nth Sydney to Frenchs Forest, I take the Roseville bridge).

Its about 13km to work. The first 7 kms i improved my time by 30%... then i hit the hill and found out how different the gearing is on the new bike. The last4kms after the hill took a bit longer than normal.

After a few weeks i hope to be a bit fitter.

  2. how long did it take you to work on that 13km bike ride?
I want to start biking to work and wanted to estimate how long it will take to get to work. According to mapquest it is 15km away from my house. Also how fast do you average an hour?

I haven't been biking for a coupe of years so I'm not sure how I'll do, but I do get some cardio from my treadmill and ellipitical.

I considered doing it on a weekend where I could ride to work and have the my wife come and pick me up. In the end I just jumped right in and left home 30 mins earlier in the morning so that I could do a relaxed (ish) ride in.

The first week I rode 3 times the next week 4. It took one week to get used to the gearing on the new bike.

Depending on how I feel my times to work are between 32 mins and 40 mins.

    Good luck with your ride.
