  1. My Polar HRM is suddenly not working anymore, the watch is blank.
Its not even one year old, but I have lost the reciept and Rebel sport said
    tuff.

What should I do, they told me about a $40 service fee.
If its just battery, couldn't I get some watch kiosk change it for me ?
I feel peeved off, after forking out so much money, and now its not working.
    Any advice ?

Had the same with my cheapy A5 polar a few months back - popped the back off
it and suck in another battery - all was fine again. Not sure if your model
will be the same, but do watch the battery cover bracket thingy if you DIY,
    it can be fiddley..

I was ebaying for a S725 about 30mins ago... the price on these is
depressing... but not as depressing as what they go for in .au!

  3. My 720 was $415 (AUD) from an Australian shop - he was importing from
the US though, and the Oz agent for Polar got his supplier chopped.
I'm sure the ACCC should come down on these [censored] like a tonne of
bricks, but alas they're more interested in other things ...

Importing your own from the US is an option - if you have a friend over
there it's a lot easier. Then, when it gets here and if it dies, you
can just say you bought it in the US while on a holiday. How's the
distributor going to know you didn't? Stuff 'em, they're ripping
    everyone off.

Yeah, that was my thinking... lots cheaper from the states.. I see nothing
wrong with importing personal use items.. The difference between Polar
products in the US and AU is amazing.. I also priced a 725 while I was in
Hong Kong a few weeks back, still around AUD$100-150 more than importing
    from the US..

Have to sell a few things around here to fund this new HRM though.. speaking
    of..

A watch place will change it for you, the only thing you might want to do
is get it pressure tested again, because if the seal is gone and water
gets in, it's all over. Most watch places will give you a receipt with a
year guarantee on their replacement and testing as well. The combo will
cost about $25 which is about 3x the battery cost, but it's nice to know
that if they stuff up, they'll fix the damage.

The best thing to do is send it to Pursuit Performance in Adelaide as they are the Agents for Polar in Australia. The service charge is usually small and they are very quick
in returning products. If you have lost your reciept talk to them direct and explain, they are very good to deal with.

I just had my second battery replacement on my Polar HRM. First tim ewas
at the local jewellers, this time at the official Polar supplier in SA.
After the jeweller replacement the alarm no longer worked (and no it
wasn't just the setting that turns it off). But after the chnage just
done the alarm works again. Now what I didn't notice until filling in
the forms to send it off last week was that the back case was pu ton
upside down. They noted that last week and put it back the right way.
Maybe it needs that for the alarm to work (i'm not brave enough to take
it off to check in case it stops workign again). BTW I sent the HRM to
SA on Monday afternoon and it was back on Friday morning, cost about
$25, so i was pretty happy with that. I think that's the way I'll go for
    now on.

Yeah, I would normally send it off, except that it wasn't bought in
Australia, it was bought in Hong Kong, and I had no receipts, etc. And I
don't, as a general rule, like sending things I own off into the aether,
hoping they get returned to me one day. I also don't like paying for
    registered mail.

My watch guy made no mistakes, it cost me $25 and no postage, including
pressure testing, and it was done in 10 minutes on a Saturday afternoon,
which was perfect, given that I wanted to use it the next day. This was
a specialist watch guy, not a jeweller who does watches as well, and I
was impressed by the guarantee on it.

Ahha, but if you give it to your LBS (who is probably a Polar

I'm not sure that the average jeweller can "pressure test" watches. From
what I know, watches are "pressure tested" by putting them in a sealed
water filled container and applying a vacuum. Leaks are detected by
bubbles emerging from the watch. Not all jewellers would have this sort
    of equipment.

    Yep,

that's why you go to a watch specialist, not a jeweller.
