I have a 2000 era Cannondale, and want new wheels. Anyone have a good suggestion for a #210 rider? My main concerns are in particular order: *long-term durability...for a heavy rider *staying in true...for a heavy rider ~seems to be a theme. 🙂~ *value (willing to part with $500 or so)
I still have the "coda's" that came stock, and they slight lateral play. You can't tell at the hub, but it is noticable when mounted and in turns. New bearings didn't help, so it's basically a good excuse to get the new wheels that I wanted from the git-go.
I'm considering Mavic Elite, FSA rd400, Rolf Vector Pro. Bottom line is I'm training for a 1/2 IM :eek: after a few years of "lounging" want something that'll hold up well for training and be racible (I think I just created a new word?!) Thanks for the input.
When I first got back into cycling, my weight was up around 190. I had no problem riding on Rolf's.
IMHO, the Vector Pro is one of the great bargains in a decent aero wheel right now. You shouldn't have to pay more than $300 for a set on ebay, and mine are still as true as when I bought them used three years ago. A bit harsh riding, but very efficient.

Ultegra hubs (DURA ACE if you want to trim a few more grams) 32 spokes/wheel using DT or Sapim DB spokes Mavic Open Pro or CXP-33; or Velocity Aerohead (OC rear) or Fusion or Deep V. Well built by a proven builder with correct spoke tension, spoke alignment, and stress relief. Very dependable and serviceable... but not the "Bling" that botique wheels have. If you want "Bling" you can have Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes for nearly $2 each and get more durability in the spokes without loosing any of the serviceability in the wheels.

Bike Nashbar has the Campy Scirroco for $299 a set. They weigh about the same as the Ksyrium Elite and have a deeper profile. Campy makes some nice wheelsets that are suprisingly affordable. At $299 a set, that's the same price as just the rear Ksyrium Elite.
