    I have been given an order form from Transport for London for Raleigh
    bikes for cycle training. I can order eight bikes, 2 adult and 6
    child, from the following choice:

    I have written back to say that the adult choice is fine so long as
    it's a web error saying that the lady's bike has suspension forks, and
    that the Hot Rod is a good choice for a mid size child's bike, but
    that suspension forks of the mid size girl's bike is unnecessary. I
    have suggested that a range of children's bike sizes would make Cycle
    Training fully inclusive.

    I have asked for:
    1 x Metro LX Gent's 18"
    1 x Metro LX Lady's 15"
    2 x SK8 13"/24 or 1 x SK8 and 1 x Krush
    2 x Hot Rod 11"/20
    2 x Striker 10"/16

    They state that bikes will be supplied with helmets, lights and a
    basic toolkit. No mention of locks.

    They really are excellent kids bikes, light (ish) alloy frame, proper
    vee brakes (with a spring modulator on the front brake to prevent
    too-severe stopping) and LO! no crappy suspension fork. In fact, there
    is hardly anything on the bike that's not perfectly functional and
    nothing at all that does not need to be there.

    So far the bikes have shrugged off all the abuse my kids can give them.

    While we we looking for Georgia's new bike we struggled to find bikes
    without suspension and we saw a few monstrocities, I can tell you.

    Well done Raleigh for making decent kids bikes.

    BTW Decathlon do a really nice kid's racer...

    Thanks for your really positive comments about Raleigh.

    Would your 6yo daughter be equally happy on a Hot Rod 20"? I can't
    see too many 6 - 9yo boys being happy on a girl's bike. It gives me
    greater flexibility if I order bikes that boys and girls are equally
    happy to ride.

    Prolly, TBH they are all basically the same design, but the girls get
    fubky pink paint and the boys get DPM, flames etc.

    Best of luck with the Raleighs anyway - for advanced training you could
    use my 30yo 532-framed Raleigh fixed-wheel conversion!!

    If only they would make a decent gent's racer...

    It looks like they's let me order pretty much what I want for
    children's bikes from Raleigh's range.

    I'm just going to get boys' bikes, one 15" ladies and one 18" gents.
    The 15" ladies may be suitable for older girls.
